Rupy the Red Rust Flour Beetle

This PDF pattern has detailed instructions to help you make your own crochet Tribolium beetle.

Red rust flour beetles are a huge pest on stored grain worldwide, and they are also used as a model organism for food safety and biosecurity research, because they are so easy to rear. Rupy doesn’t think she is a pest though, and she promises she won’t eat your cotton stash as long as she gets to snuggle into it!

Finished size: approx. 18 cm/7 inches

Materials

• DK or 8ply yarn in red (<50 g) and burgundy (<15 g)
• 3.5 mm crochet hook
• Stitch marker, tapestry needle and scissors
• Polyfill
