Hello crochet friends!
St Patrick’s day is quite special for our family! My mother in law is of Irish descent and she was born on that day too. We definitely like to celebrate the day and I thought that making a little shamrock would be perfect for the occasion! You can find the full video tutorial by clocking the link below! As always, I hope enjoy the pattern!
Materials
• DK or 8ply yarn in green (I like the Ricorumi DK*)
• 3.5 mm crochet hook*
• Stitch marker, tapestry needle and scissors
Abbreviation used (U.S. terms)
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
*…*: repeat
inc: 2 single crochet in the same stitch
dec: single crochet 2 stitches together through the front loop only (invisible decrease)
Finished size: approx. 8 cm
All pieces are worked through both loops of the stitches and in the round without joining unless stated otherwise in the pattern. It is recommended to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round.
Leaves – in green make 3
Work in rounds
Round 1. sc 6 in a magic ring (6)
Round 2. inc x6 (12)
Round 3. sc in each st around (12)
Fasten off leaving a tail of yarn. Repeat rounds 1-3 and do not fasten off the second time. Instead, continue onto round 4 to join both parts.
Round 4. sc 12 around the first part, sc 12 around the second part (24)
Rounds 5-6. sc in each st around (24) 2 rounds
Using the yarn tail left from the first part, sew the gap between the two parts closed.
Round 7. *sc 2, dec* x6 (18)
Round 8. sc in each st around (18)
Round 9. *sc 1, dec* x6 (12)
Round 10. sc in each st around (12)
Round 11. dec x6 (6)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stem – in green make 1
Make a Romanian cord, working in rows
Row 1. ch 2, sc 1 in the second ch from the hook
Row 2. Turn your work 1/4 of a turn clockwise towards the back, insert your hook into the side of the previous stitch, sc 1
Repeat row 2 until your cord measures 4 cm (or it is long enough for the stem of your shamrock). To obtain the required length, I repeated row 2 a total of 20 times.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly
1. Join the three leaves by sewing the points of the leaves together.
2. Weave in the starting tail of the stem and sew the stem to the middle of the three leaves using the end yarn tail.
You are done!
