Arno the Escargot

Hi crafters!

Escargot is the French word for snail, and as this little guy’s name was inspired by my French best friend, it only seemed appropriate! I really like that you can make those in all the colours of the rainbow. I hope you enjoy this pattern!

If you’d like an easy to read, printable PDF, you can get one for a small fee by clicking any of the links below.

Materials

• DK or 8ply yarn in dark pink and light pink (I like to use Ricorumi DK or Paintbox cotton DK*)
3.5 mm crochet hook*
• Stitch marker, tapestry needle, white embroidery thread and scissors
Polyfill*
• 2x 8 mm safety eyes (optional – do not use for children under 3 y.o.)

Abbreviation used (U.S. terms)

ch: chain
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
*…*: repeat
inc: 2 single crochet in the same stitch
dec: single crochet 2 stitches together through the front loop only (invisible decrease)

Finished size: approx. 9 cm/ 3.5 inches

All pieces are worked through both loops of the stitches and in the round without joining unless stated otherwise in the pattern. It is recommended to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round. To make it easier, you can stuff your amigurumi as you go.

Fasten off leaving a very long tail for sewing.

Assembly

1. Sew the shell along the long side of the triangle to obtain a cone, still leaving a long tail to finish the assembly.

2. Stuff the shell loosely and sew the cone on itself to make a spiral. You may need to move the stuffing around slightly to make sure that it is spread evenly accross the shell.

3. Sew the shell to the top of the snail body, betweens rounds 9-16.
