Emma Crafts Vlog 2 – A blanket worthy of Mordor

Hello crafty friends!

It is October and I am back with my second video blog where I’ll talk about what crafty things I’ve been up to since my last vlog (huge hint in the title of this post!). You can watch the vlog by clicking the link below and you’ll find the details (with links to patterns) of all the things I mention in the show-notes. Enjoy!

Finished objects

I have done it! I have finally finished my LOTR blanket! Apart from that I still managed to get a few of my other WIPs that I showed you last time done. I even had time to start and finish a couple of other quick projects. I have not mentioned this previously but the yarn I use is mostly DK cotton yarn from my local craft stores (Spotlight Flinders cotton 8ply and Lincraft Makr cotton 8ply), with a 3.5 mm hook.

  • LOTR blanket (by EmmaCraftsDesign) free pattern – OMG!! I finally finished this huge project that I’ve been dragging for 5 years! I’ve made a whole blog post about it if you want some cool facts about this blanket.
  • Banjo the Bunny (by EmmaCraftsDesign) paid pattern – This little cutie is finished, I think he is the perfect size for little hands as a cuddly toy and he is waiting on his brother Benedict to be finished.
  • Bubbles the Blue-Banded Bee (by EmmaCraftsDesign) free pattern– My newest free pattern! I’ve designed Bubbles for the 2021 Amigurumi Showcase, and I think it’s a great tiny Australian Hero!
  • Neeloum the owl (by Bories Creations) paid pattern – I am so in love with this little owl! As soon as I saw it, I knew I would love to test this pattern for Méline and she was kind enough to trust me to do so. The colours I’ve chosen to make my Neeloum are inspired by Hedwig from the Harry Potter universe (she is a snow owl if you’re not familiar with it).
  • Champipi (by Ohana Hook) paid pattern– I’ve mentioned her before but I love OhanaHook. She not only designs crochet patterns but also invents so many wonderful characters and stories. Her newest awesome idea has been to release colouring sheets for her characters, and Clark and I had lots of fun choosing colours to make Champipi. Claudie also organised a CAL for the release of Champipi’s pattern and I won! Which means that you’ll see more patterns from OhanaHook very soon!

Works in progress

A few more of my own designs in progress, I still need to finish Benedict the Bear and I am updating the free pattern for Wiley the Wisp (hopefully next week so that you can make it in time for Halloween!)

  • Benedict the Bear (by EmmaCraftsDesign) paid pattern– No progress here but I will aim to finish it for next month.
  • Wiley the Wisp (by EmmaCraftsDesign) free pattern– I’m taking some new pictures to update the pattern for Wiley the Wisp. You can already find the free pattern on the blog but I’ll have the free PDF pattern ready soon!
  • Amigurumi School of Magic Term 3 (by Irene Strange and Ilaria Caliri) paid pattern– I’m super excited to participate in this Crochet Along for the third year! The first week has been super fun so far, I’ve already made my badge for earth week, made my Lover’s Knot plant and started my cheeky troll. I’ve also made a start on the bonus pattern, which is a shoulder bag this year.
  • Stir it up Top (by Wool and the Gang) free pattern– The first knit project I show you here! I’ve made this a little while ago but haven’t gotten around to sewing it together. It’s getting warmer here now so I think it will be perfect to wear next time I chat to you! I’ve looked up the yarn I used, it is Anette Eriksson eco cotton XL.

Craft plans

  • I want to finalise the pattern for a new character, a little dino bird called Archie the Archaeopteryx.
  • I’m participating in an Inktober challenge, the Take it Slowtober (hosted by FourSeasonsFox). This challenge is for drawing a little bit everyday by following prompts. Instead of making a full drawing everyday, the Slowtober prompts are aiming to produce a drawing per week. I’m trying to make little illustrations of my crochet characters. I’ll report on it next time!

As always I love your feedback, so don’t hesitate to tell me what you thought about the article/the vlog!
