Hello crochet friends!
I am back with a new free pattern! I made this gem (and I am planning on making many more!) because my boys currently love pirates and treasures, and they wanted their very own crochet treasures to play with. My next goal is to make some gems using sparkling yarn, so be sure to follow me on Instagram if you’d like to see how they turn out!
Materials
• DK or 8ply yarn in purple (or any colour gem you’d like!)
• 3.5 mm crochet hook
• Stitch marker, tapestry needle and scissors
• Polyfill
Abbreviation used (U.S. terms)
sc: single crochet
fp-sc: front post single crochet
st: stitch
*…*: repeat
inc: 2 single crochet in the same stitch
sc3inc: 3 single crochet in the same stitch
dec: single crochet 2 stitches together through the front loop only (invisible decrease)
sc3tog: single crochet 3 stitched together
BLO: back loop only
Finished size: approx. 5 cm
All pieces are worked through both loops of the stitches and in the round without joining unless stated otherwise in the pattern. It is recommended to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round.
Gem – in purple make 1
Work in rounds
Round 1. sc 6 in a magic ring (6)
Round 2. sc3inc x6 (18)
Round 3. *sc 1, sc3inc, sc 1* x6 (30)
Round 4. in BLO, sc in each st around (30)
Round 5. *sc 2, sc3inc, sc 2* x6 (42)
Round 6. in BLO, *sc 2, sc3tog, sc 2* x6 (30)
Rounds 7-8. *sc 2, fp-sc 1, sc 2* x6 (30)
Round 9. *dec, fp-sc 1, sc 2* x6 (24)
Round 10. *sc 1, fp-sc 1, sc 2* x6 (24)
Round 11. *sc 1, fp-sc 1, dec* x6 (18)
Round 12. *sc 1, fp-sc 1, sc 1* x5, sc 1, fp-sc 1 (17)
Do not finish the round and stuff the gem now. The new round will start in the next stitch. Move stitch marker accordingly.
Round 13. *dec, fp-sc 1* x6 (12)
Round 14. *sc 1, fp-sc 1* x6 (12)
Round 15. *skip the sc, fp-sc 1* x6 (6)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
